English Language

  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
  • Marks scored by candidates in the Computer Based Examinations, if conducted in multiple shifts, will be normalized and such normalized scores will be used to determine final merit.

Skill test

The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/Hindi at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’. The transcription time for typing will be as follows:

Grade C

Candidates appearing for SSC Stenographer will have to fulfill certain eligibility criteria:

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or any equivalent exam from a recognized board or university.
  • Candidates appearing in the final year from any of the Board/University can also apply for the exam.

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • Provided that a candidate belonging to categories 2 and 3 above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
  • A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary will be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.
  • A Tibetan Refugee came over to India before 1st Jan 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • A person belonging to Indian Origin migrated from Countries such as Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit

The age of the candidate must be between 18 to 30 years for Grade-B and between 18 to 27 years for Grade-C.
