The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force. This exam is held twice a year in the month of February and August/September to select Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical).

EKT Syllabus

AFCAT EKT is a 45 minute exam and is followed by AFCAT. Candidates are given half an hour window after which AFCAT EKT Exam takes place. The total duration for AFCAT exam is 2 hours and the mode of examination is online.

The exam is conducted in online mode by Indian Air Force. The selection process of AFCAT Exam comprises the following stages:

  • AFCAT Written Exam is the only criteria for clearing first stage for the Non-Technical candidates; while AFCAT+ EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test) for the Technical candidates
  • Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Interview
  • Medical Test

It is mandatory for all the candidates of the AFCAT, to appear in the written test. Candidates opting for Ground Duty (Technical) branch have to appear in both AFCAT as well as Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT). For each correct answer 3 marks will be allotted and 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Nationality & Marital Status:

  • Candidates must be a citizen of India.
  • Candidates must be below 25 years, must be unmarried.
  • Widows/Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years are also not eligible.
  • Candidates who marry subsequent to the date of his application though successful at SSB or medical will not be eligible for training.
  • Those who marry during the period of training will be discharged. They are liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the government.
  • Married candidates above 25 years can apply but during the training period they will not be provided separate accommodation for the spouse or they can live with family.

Age Limit:

  • Flying Branch (AFCAT & NCC Entry): The age of candidates should be 20 to 24 years. The upper age limit of candidates holding valid and current commercial pilot license issued by DGCA is relaxed upto 26 years.
  • Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical): Candidates must be 20 to 26 years.

The DOB entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University will be accepted by IAF.

Educational Qualification:

  • Flying Branch: Minimum of 60 % marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level. Graduation with a minimum of 3 years degree in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60 % marks.
