SBI Clerk (Junior Associates) Exam is conducted by SBI for the recruitment of candidates in Clerical cadre in different branches across the country. SBI Clerk is one the most prestigious bank exam in today times as large number of vacancies are released by SBI and huge number of candidates appear every year for the exam.

SBI Clerk Exam consists of two levels and that is Prelims and Mains. To move further in the process one must crack and clear the Preliminary exam in order to give the Mains Examination. Point to be noted here is that no interview process is required in order to get selected in Clerical Cadre and 100 % weightage will be given to Mains Exam for final selection.

English Language:

General Awareness:

Current Affairs, Financial Awareness with special reference to Banking Industry, Economics.

The SBI Clerk exam occurs in two stages: Prelims and Mains. Both these papers are conducted in online mode. The structure of the exam is as follow:

Prelims Exam:

The preliminary exam of SBI Clerk is an online exam testing a candidate on the basis of their aptitude, intellect and English. There are three sections in total and the candidate must clear the cut off of each section to proceed to the mains exam round.

Candidates are required to solve the question paper in the time frame of 20 minutes for each section. The composite mark of the paper is 100 and the passing marks is decided by SBI that is likely to change every year depending on the level of difficulty of the exam and number of candidates appearing in the exam.

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing minimum cut-off marks to be decided by SBI. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by SBI depending upon requirements will be shortlisted for Online Main Examination.

Mains Exam:

SBI Clerk Mains Exam will now constitute of 190 questions that needs to be completed in a time frame of 160 minutes.

Both Preliminary Exam and Mains Exam will be conducted bilingually, i.e. both in English and in Hindi. Let’s have a look at the Exam Pattern for SBI Clerk Mains.

Penalty for Wrong Answers:

There is a penalty for wrong answers marked in both preliminary examination as well as mains examination. A wrong answer to an objective question will lead to a penalty of one-fourth of the total mark assigned to that question. There will be no penalty for the question left blank or unanswered.

Final Score:

The final score for the SBI Clerk exam is calculated keeping the following points in mind:

  • Marks obtained in the Preliminary Exam (Phase-1) will not be considered for final selection. Prelims exam is just a qualifying exam.
  • Candidates must qualify Phase-2 to be eligible for final merit.
  • The aggregate score out of 100 is used for the final merit list for each category. Candidates with top merit rank in each category are finally selected.

Students are required to qualify both these exams to get selected for the post of clerical cadre in SBI. The main thing to note here is that there is no interview process required for the selection of candidate after the mains exam. 100 % weightage is given to the result of mains exam result.

Pay Scale:

The SBI Clerk Salary Structure is as follows:

11765-655/3-13730-815/3-16175-980/4-20095-1145/7-28110- 2120/1- 30230-1310/1-31450.

This means that the starting salary for a candidate will be Rs 11,765/- with a year-on-year increment of Rs. 655/- with the Basic pay while the Maximum Basic Salary of an SBI Clerk is Rs 31,450/-.

Inhand Salary:

The In-Hand Salary of SBI Clerk will include the approximate amount a candidate gets after the deductions. The amount here is ranges from Rs. 20,000 to 22,000/-. A factor that influences this amount is the location of posting, which is different in urban and rural locality.

The candidate must fulfill the following two criteria to be eligible for the SBI Clerk Exam:

Age Limit:

The candidate must not be below 20 years and above 28 years as on 01-Januray of that particular year. The final criteria for SBI Clerk Exam is released every year and SBI reserves the right to change it.

Educational Qualifications:

A candidate must possess the minimum qualification of Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government. The candidate should have passed in English as one of the subjects at SSC/ HSC/Intermediate/ Graduation level. Candidate should possess certificate in proof of passing the qualifying examination.
